All Schlegel Electronic Materials' (SEM) fabric-over-foam gaskets are constructed with our unsurpassed, industry leading polyurethane foam technology. We have several high performance foams that meet the application requirements of the electronics industry. The core of SEM's EMI shielding gaskets is open-celled polyether polyurethane foam in a high resiliency formula. Within the SEM cladding portfolio of C2, C70 and C12 fabrics, you can select from the following foam options:
- Type 1 - Standard, highly resilient UL 94-HB gray foam
- Type 5 - Bromine-free flame retardant UL 94-V0 blue foam
- Type 6 - Standard flame retardant UL-94 V0 blue foam
All ratings are under the component program of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. in specified claddings and thicknesses. Contact SEM for more information. Bromine-free Flame Retardant UL94-VO SEM is the first EMI shielding component manufacturer to make a UL 94 V0 open-celled polyurethane foam bromine free. SEM can help you comply with the European Union's impending legislation banning or restricting the use of brominated flame-retardants in electronic products for sale in the EU. Demands to reduce the risk of brominated flame retardants are driven by the EU RoHS and WEEE Directives. The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Wastes from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directives were implemented in 2004 and mandatory since 2006. None of the current flame retardant chemicals used in SEM's EMI shielding gaskets fall under the RoHS restricted use category. Compression Set Test Results: UL94-HB (Type1) :Compression set is 1% at ambient temperature and <5% at 70° C (158° F) when compressed 50% of free height for 22 hours.
UL94-V0 (Type 5 & 6) :Compression set is 5% at ambient temperature and <20% at 70°C (158° F) when compressed 50% of free height for 22 hours.
